Long-term oral use of Folic acid can be unsafe as it can cause stomach upset, gas, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.

Folik is a brand name of folic acid which is a water-soluble form of vitamin B9. The natural form is known as folate while folic acid is the synthetic form. It is a prescription drug which is given for the treatment of folic acid deficiency. It is also given in pregnancy to prevent birth defects (neural tube defects) in the fetus.
Folik deficiency can be treated by taking 250 micrograms to 1 milligram of the drug. For pregnant women, the recommended dosage is 400 micrograms per day from supplements or fortified food.
