Ideally, oral Hitrex has to be taken empty stomach because the presence of food might affect the absorption of this drug from the stomach. Precautions must be taken in patients with bone marrow depression, and improper liver or kidney function.

Does Hitrex cause anemia?

Yes, Hitrex may cause anemia, this occurs only in a few cases. It is a rare side effect of this drug. It occurs due to bone marrow suppression which might cause anemia (low red blood cells count), leukopenia (low white blood cells count), thrombocytopenia (low platelets count), and pancytopenia (low red cells, white cells, and platelets). However, this effect is reversible in nature and the function of bone marrow is restored after discontinuation of this drug.
