Folson is a brand name of folic acid which is a water-soluble form of vitamin B9. The natural form is known as folate while folic acid is the synthetic form. It is a prescription drug which is given for the treatment of folic acid deficiency. It is also given in pregnancy to prevent birth defects (neural tube defects) in the fetus.
Folson deficiency can be treated by taking 250 micrograms to 1 milligram of the drug. For pregnant women, the recommended dosage is 400 micrograms per day from supplements or fortified food. You are urged to follow doctors instructions as the recommended dosage is always suggested by a physician after analyzing the deficiency in the body with the help of current blood reports.
Folson should be taken at the same time, whether morning or night. It should be taken with a glass of water, with or without food.
