Yes, Sibofix can be taken with loperamide. Loperamide does not appear to interfere with the efficacy of Sibofix. Hence, it is alright to take them together. However, if you feel any discomfort after taking this drug do not hesitate to inform your doctor.
Yes, Sibofix may cause orange urine because it is an analog of rifampicin. This side effect is reversible and unharmful in nature which goes away after discontinuation of this drug.
No, Sibofix does not cause weight gain. It has not been reported by the patients who are taking this drug but Sibofix has been reported to cause weight loss in a few patients with travelers’ diarrhea. If you notice any unusual rapid weight changes after taking this drug then discuss with it your doctor and follow his/her instructions.
Rarely, Sibofix causes fatigue. It is an uncommon side effect of this drug. However, the exact cause of fatigue is unknown. If you experience tiredness after taking this drug, then try to take some rest even after that if you feel excessive tiredness then do discuss it with your doctor.
Sibofix works by inhibiting the bacterial protein synthesis which is essential for bacterial growth. The absence of these proteins results in stunned bacterial growth due to which bacteria is not able to survive. For hepatic encephalopathy Sibofix works by inhibiting the growth of enteric ammonia-producing bacteria which are present in our gut, this results in the indirect reduction of serum ammonia level. In irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea, how Sibofix works are still unknown but it is presumed that it works by changing the bacterial flora in small intestine and reduction in gas.
