Siomet contains xylometazoline which is a nasal decongestant that works by causing constriction (shrinking) of blood vessels which are present in our nose. This results in a decrease in swelling and congestion in the nose which opens the nasal passages relieve nasal stuffiness that allows easy nasal breathing.
No, Siomet does not cause nosebleed (epistaxis). It has not been reported by the patients who are using this drug. In fact, it can be used to control nose bleed because it can cause constriction (shrinking) of blood vessels which can prevent the nose bleeding.
Siomet is a brand name of xylometazoline and it comes in form of nasal drops and nasal spray. It belongs to the class of drug known as an alpha-adrenergic agonist (sympathomimetic agent). It is an over the counter (OTC) drug that is used to provide relief from nasal congestion associated with common cold, hay fever, sinusitis, and allergic rhinitis.
Yes, Siomet might cause high blood pressure (hypertension). However, high blood pressure has been very rarely associated with the Siomet and it cannot be estimated with the presently available scientific evidence.
Yes, Siomet might cause irritation which is stinging or burning sensation in the nose but it occurs only in a few cases. It is a rare side effect of this drug. However, the exact cause of irritation is unknown. It goes away after discontinuation of this drug. If you are experiencing excessive irritation in the nose after using this drug, then discuss it with your doctor.
