Frequently asked Questions about Amisac

Question almost 6 years ago

Can I discontinue Amisac on my own without doctors advice?

Dr. Kuldeep Meena MBBS, MD , Cardiology, Neurology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, General Physician, Other, Infectious Disease, Emergency Medicine, Allergy and Immunology, Internal Medicine, Multispeciality

Discontinuing Amisac on your own can increase the chances of bacterial resistance and infection relapse. It is recommended that you always consult your doctor if you have decided to discontinue this medicine.

Question over 5 years ago

Can I take Amisac with penicillin?

Dr. Braj Bhushan Ojha BAMS , Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Ayurveda, Sexology, Diabetology

No, Amisac cannot be taken with penicillin. Because penicillin inactivates the Amisac by combining the beta-lactam ring of penicillin with an amino group of this drug to form amide which is biologically inactive. For this reason Amisac should not be taken with penicillin. The chances of inactivation of this drug are higher in case of renal failure because in this case concentration of penicillin is higher in the kidney for a longer time as compared to the normal renal function.

Do not self-administer Amisac. It comes in the form of injection and given preferably 2 - 3 times in a day (Intravenously). You are recommended to complete the 7 - 10 days course even after getting symptomatic relief. In case you feel any discomfort such as hearing loss and nephrotoxicity while taking Amisac please inform your doctor immediately.
