Usually, San D is given for 2 - 4 weeks which may vary from case to case basis depending on the age, gender, and diagnosis of the patient. You are advised take it as per your doctor's advice. Rarely, San D causes a headache, if the drug is taken in more than the recommended doses. It is a known side effect of this drug. However, the exact cause headache is unknown. If you experience a severe headache after taking this drug, take a mild painkiller, applying balms and complete rest. Even after this if the pain does not subside then discuss with your doctor immediately.

San D is a brand name of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and it comes in the form of a tablet, capsule, sachet, and injection. It is a prescription drug that is used in the management of diseases that results from vitamin D3 deficiency (rickets, osteoporosis, and osteomalacia) and to treat nutritional deficiency of vitamin D3 due to imbalanced diet and its deficiency which is caused by some disease states (malabsorption syndrome, Crohn's disease, and liver diseases). It is also used in the Crohn's of calcium (hypocalcemia) caused by hypoparathyroidism which is decreased levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) from parathyroid glands.

No, San D does not cause weight gain. It has not been reported to cause weight gain by the patients who are taking. It is not a known side effect of this drug. In fact, its long-term use might cause weight loss. San D contains cholecalciferol also known as vitamin D3. It works by restoring the normal levels of vitamin D3 in the body which promotes the calcium and phosphate absorption in the intestine and its retention from the kidneys. Normally, vitamin D3 comes from dietary sources and it is also synthesized in the skin by sunlight. It plays multiple roles in our bodies such as maintaining normal levels of calcium in the body through its absorption in the intestine and its retention by the kidneys. In case of malabsorption states, the body is not able to absorb this vital nutrient from the small intestine and also in case of liver diseases vitamin D3 is not converted into its active form by the liver which leads to its deficiency. Due to this, its normal levels are not available in the body and the roles played by vitamin D3 are affected. San D restores the optimum levels of vitamin D3 in the body which helps in treating its deficiency.
