Migrazine is a brand name of flunarizine and it is available in the form of a tablet. It belongs to the class of drug known as selective calcium antagonist. It is mainly used for the preventive (prophylactic) and treatment of migraine attacks in patients who do not respond to other drugs that are primarily used to treat a migraine. It is also used in the symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo which is caused by a functional disorder of the vestibular system.
Migrazine contains flunarizine which works through preventing the narrowing of blood vessels due to calcium overload caused by the excessive influx of calcium. The narrowing of blood vessels is considered as a possible cause for migraine and its prevention helps in reducing the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. Migrazine also blocks the release of a chemical messenger (histamine) due to its antihistaminic properties which are presumed to contribute in providing relief to the patient from symptoms of vestibular vertigo.
