Mechanism of Action

Mesna binds to the urotoxic metabolites of oxazaphosphorine chemotherapy agents (acrolein and other compounds) in the bladder, forming non-toxic compounds that are excreted in the urine, thereby preventing bladder damage.

Dosage

• Dosage is based on the cyclophosphamide or ifosfamide dose. Typically, Mesna is given at 20% of the chemotherapy dose, intravenously at the time of chemotherapy administration and repeated at intervals as recommended.
