No, Salisone Should not be stopped or discontinued without doctors advice. You are recommended to always consult a doctor before discontinuing this medicine. Suddenly stopping Salisone can cause withdrawal symptoms such as fever, joint pain, and feeling of discomfort. To avoid the withdrawal symptoms, the dosage of this drug should be reduced gradually. Please consult your doctor if you are experiencing any withdrawal symptoms after stopping/discounting it on your own.
This is because a long-term use of Salisone can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency. Stomach acids help in the absorption of Vitamin B 12, and this drug suppresses stomach acid which is required for the absorption of vitamin B12. Hence patients taking Salisone for a long time have Vitamin B12 deficiency. To replenish Vitamin B12 in your body your doctor prescribes this vitamin along with this medicine.
Yes, Salisone can cause weight gain. It is common side effects this drug. However, if you notice any unusual weight gain after taking this medicine then discuss it with the doctor.
