Nu D3 contains cholecalciferol also known as vitamin D3. It works by restoring the normal levels of vitamin D3 in the body which promotes the calcium and phosphate absorption in the intestine and its retention from the kidneys. Normally, vitamin D3 comes from dietary sources and it is also synthesized in the skin by sunlight. It plays multiple roles in our bodies such as maintaining normal levels of calcium in the body through its absorption in the intestine and its retention by the kidneys. It is a prescription drug that is used in the management of diseases that results from vitamin D3 deficiency (rickets, osteoporosis, and osteomalacia) and to treat nutritional deficiency of vitamin D3 due to imbalanced diet and its deficiency which is caused by some disease states (malabsorption syndrome, Crohn's disease, and liver diseases).
