No, Mupirocin does not contain steroids. It contains mupirocin that is an antibiotic which is effective against gram-positive bacteria, used for the treatment of bacterial skin infections.
Mupirocin works by inhibiting RNA synthetase enzyme in bacteria that is essential for bacterial protein synthesis due to which the bacteria cannot make new proteins. The absence of these proteins results in stunned bacterial growth due to which bacteria is not able to survive. Mupirocin is effective against mainly gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
Mupirocin should be applied two to three times a day or as advised by your doctor. Mupirocin should be applied to the affected area with a cotton swab or a gauze pad. Do not forget to wash your hands after applying this drug.
