Yes, Manoten may cause weight gain. It is a rare side effect of this drug. The exact cause of weight gain is not known. However, if you are experiencing rapid weight gain after taking this drug, then you are advised to discuss it with your doctor.
Manoten contains atenolol which is presumed to work through multiple mechanisms. It reduces blood pressure and slows down the fast heartbeat by blocking the influx of calcium ions and binding to certain receptors (beta-adrenoceptors) in the smooth muscles of heart which prevent the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline that also contributes in decreasing myocardial (heart) oxygen demand.
Rarely, Manoten causes hair loss (alopecia). However, the exact cause behind hair loss is unknown but it is presumed that it occurs because of thinning of the hairs which weakens their strength. If you are experiencing excessive hair loss after taking this drug then do discuss it with your doctor.
No, Manoten does not cause diabetes. It has not been reported by the patients who are taking this drug.
