Furoped is a brand name of furosemide and it comes in different forms such as tablet and injections. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drugs called loop diuretics (high-ceiling sulfonamide diuretics) or famously known as water pills. It is used for the treatment of edema (swelling due to an accumulation of excessive fluid) associated with the diseases such as congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and nephrotic syndrome. It is also used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).
Yes, Furoped causes muscle cramps but it occurs only in a few cases. If you experience excessive muscle cramps then consult it with your doctor without any further delay.
Furoped works by increasing the rate of urine formation by inhibiting the sodium and potassium reabsorption from the kidney, this causes more frequent urination than normal. An increased flow of urination leads to a decrease in blood volume and removal of this extra fluid from your body results in a decrease in edema. The decreased blood volume causes relaxation of the walls of blood vessels and this results in a decrease in blood pressure which gives relief from swelling and high blood pressure to the patient.
Yes, Furoped is safe to use, if taken in prescribed amount and duration as advised by the doctor. However, certain side effects have been associated with this drug such as hypokalemia (decreased levels of potassium), hyperuricemia (increased levels of uric acid), diarrhoea, headache, and dizziness. If you experience any discomfort after taking this do inform your doctor.
No, Furoped should not be discontinued without doctors advice. You are recommended to always consult a doctor before discontinuing this medicine.
