Egeria helps in regulating the menstrual cycle. It prepares the uterus for pregnancy. After ovulation every month, it thickens the uterine wall to prepare to receive the fertilized egg, however, if there is no fertilization, the levels of progesterone drop and menstruation begins. In case of fertilization the fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall, progesterone helps maintain the thickness of the uterine wall throughout the duration of pregnancy.
Egeria is available in oral form as well as in topical form as a cream. The medicine should be taken as prescribed by the physician.
Yes, it may cause bleeding in some women of child-bearing (21-45) age while they are taking Egeria. But it has been observed that pregnant women may experience uterine bleeding due to the low progesterone levels. Hence taking this hormone may rectify low progesterone levels.
If your period starts while taking Egeria, it is important to continue with the medication till the 14th day. However, the next progesterone cycle should be started after 14 days after the beginning of the flow.
