Dilzem is a calcium channel blocker. It works by inhibiting the movement of calcium into vascular smooth muscle cells and cardiac cells which inhibits the contraction of cardiac muscle and vascular smooth muscle and reduce electrical conduction within the heart cell and dilate blood vessel. Dilation of the blood vessel reduces the blood pressure and decreases the chance of angina.
Yes, Dilzem may cause shortness of breath. It has been reported by a patient who is taking this drug. However, if you experience shortness of breath or difficulty in swallowing then immediately consult your doctor and follow his/her instructions.
Dilzem may increase the blood level and effect of sildenafil if taken together. So, you are advised to take it on the doctor's recommendation.

Yes, Dilzem can cause edema (swelling). It is the most common side effects of this drug. Usually swelling occurs in face, eyes, lips, tongue, hands, arms, feet and ankle. If yes, then you can stop taking this medicine with the help of doctor because of alternate treatment are also available.
