Cytasted, containing Cytarabine, is a chemotherapy drug primarily used in the treatment of hematological malignancies. It is an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis, making it effective against rapidly dividing cancer cells.

Uses

• Acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
• Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)
• Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in blast crisis
• Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (CNS involvement)

Cytarabine incorporates into DNA during replication, halting DNA polymerase activity and leading to cell death, particularly in rapidly dividing cells.

Side Effects

• Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
• Myelosuppression (low blood cell counts)
• Mucositis (mouth sores)
• Fever and flu-like symptoms
• Hepatotoxicity (liver damage)
• Neurotoxicity (at high doses)

Precautions

• Monitor complete blood counts regularly.
• Avoid in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment.
• Use with caution in patients with active infections.
• High-dose therapy requires monitoring for neurotoxicity.

Dosage and Administration

Formulation: Injectable (IV, subcutaneous, or intrathecal)

Dosage:

• Standard-dose: 100-200 mg/m²/day IV for 5-7 days.
• High-dose: 2-3 g/m² IV every 12 hours for 2-6 days.
