Interaction between Alcohol and Cloral

Cloral contains chloramphenicol which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting the protein synthesis in bacteria which needs to survive. In the absence of protein, the bacterial growth is stunned and slowed. It can also kill the bacteria in higher doses. Cloral is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Salmonella species, Rickettsia species, Neisseria meningitidis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, and Staphylococcus pneumoniae.
No, Cloral does not cause weight loss. It has not been reported by the patients who are taking this drug. However, some of the animal studies have reported weight loss after long-term use of this drug.
