Yes, Amisafe is effective against bacteria (Pseudomonas). But it is also found that Pseudomonas can get resistant to this drug and in that case Amisafe will not produce desired results. If you are experiencing no symptomatic relief after taking this medicine then inform your doctor and follow his/her instructions.
Occasionally, Amisafe can cause drug-induced thrombocytopenia (blood clot formation in the vessel). However, if you experience severe thrombocytopenia after taking this medicine, please immediately seek medical help.
No, Amisafe cannot be taken with penicillin. Because penicillin inactivates the Amisafe by combining the beta-lactam ring of penicillin with an amino group of this drug to form amide which is biologically inactive. For this reason Amisafe should not be taken with penicillin. The chances of inactivation of this drug are higher in case of renal failure because in this case concentration of penicillin is higher in the kidney for a longer time as compared to the normal renal function.
Yes, Amisafe has been reported to cause ototoxicity (hearing loss or deafness) which is irreversible and may progress after discontinuation of the drug. It is a common side effect of this medicine. If you experience hearing loss or deafness after consuming or applying for this medicine, then consult your doctor and follow his/her instructions.
Amisafe is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by preventing the synthesis of proteins that bacteria need to survive, in the absence of protein synthesis bacteria become vulnerable and dies. It is effective against different types of bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus species, S. aureus, Acinetobacter and Serratia species.
