It is presumed that Phensobar works by suppressing the abnormal activity of nerve cells in the brain through an increase in the activity of a chemical messenger known as GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). It also induces drowsiness or sedation by depressing some parts of the brain such as sensory and motor cortex.
