Nufil SF contains Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor (G-CSF), a medication used to stimulate the production of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) in patients undergoing chemotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, or with chronic neutropenia. It helps reduce the risk of infection by boosting the immune system.
Uses
- Prevention and treatment of neutropenia induced by chemotherapy
- Bone marrow transplantation
- Chronic neutropenia (including congenital, cyclic, or idiopathic neutropenia)
- Mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells for peripheral blood stem cell collection
Mechanism of Action
G-CSF binds to specific cell surface receptors on hematopoietic stem cells, stimulating the production, differentiation, and activation of neutrophils. This enhances the body’s defense against infections.
Onset of Action
The effect on neutrophil counts is generally seen within 24 to 48 hours after administration.
Duration of Action
The duration of action varies but typically lasts for several days after a single dose.
Dosage
- Chemotherapy-induced neutropenia: 5 mcg/kg/day as a subcutaneous injection or intravenous infusion, starting 24 hours after chemotherapy and continuing until neutrophil recovery.
- Bone marrow transplantation: 10 mcg/kg/day as a subcutaneous injection.
- Chronic neutropenia: Dose ranges from 5 mcg/kg/day to 10 mcg/kg/day depending on the type and severity of neutropenia.
- Dosages may vary based on patient-specific conditions and medical supervision.
Side Effects
- Bone pain
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Nausea
- Headache
- Injection site reactions
- Increased white blood cell count (leukocytosis)
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with a history of splenic rupture or sickle cell disease.
- Regular monitoring of white blood cell counts is necessary.
- Avoid use in patients with known hypersensitivity to G-CSF or its components.
- Safety during pregnancy and lactation should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
