Ideally, oral Hepawin should be taken by mouth 2 - 3 times a day or as advised by your doctor. Hepawin can be taken with or with food as the presence of food normally does not affect its absorption from the stomach. Precautions must be taken in patients with diabetes mellitus and fructose intolerance.

Hepawin contains L-ornithine l-aspartate which is a hepatoprotective agent. It works by promoting the synthesis of glutamine in our body which is an amino acid that binds with ammonia. This binding results in the formation of a complex which is non-toxic in nature and it is easily removed from the body by kidneys in urine. Hepawin is a brand name of L-ornithine L-aspartate and it comes in various dosage forms such as a tablet, sachet, injection, and oral suspension. It belongs to the class of drug known as hepatic protectors. It is a prescription drug that is used in the management of hyperammonemia (high levels of ammonia in blood) that results from liver diseases such as liver cirrhosis (liver damage caused by long-term alcohol consumption or untreated hepatitis), fatty liver (deposition of fat in the liver), and hepatitis (inflammation of liver due to viral infection). Hepawin is also used in the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy (a brain disorder that causes a decline in the functioning of the brain due to the accumulation of ammonia in which results from the liver damage).
