Yes, long-term use of Falcin may cause weight loss but this occurs rarely. It is a rare side effect of Falcin. However, if you are experiencing unusual rapid weight loss and you are in doubt that Falcin is causing weight loss then discuss with your doctor instantly.
Falcin contains chloroquine. It has antimalarial, amebicidal, and immunosuppressant activity. It is presumed that Falcin works by increasing pH in the acid vesicles of parasite which interferes in the parasite's ability to break down and digest hemoglobin. Malarial parasites need hemoglobin for growth and survival. This results in starvation and death of parasites. Falcin works in rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) by suppressing the immune system which provides relief to the patient from pain and inflammation. However, the exact mechanism how it works in these autoimmune diseases is still unknown.
Oral tablet and suspension of Falcin should be taken by mouth 1 - 2 times in a day or as advised by your doctor. Ideally, Falcin has to be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. Precautions must be taken in patients with heart diseases.
