It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Sifotaxim is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenza, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus pneumonia.
Discontinuing Sifotaxim on your own can increase the chances of bacterial resistance and infection relapse. It is recommended that you always consult your doctor if you have decided to discontinue this medicine.
