It is a broad spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the class of drugs known as cephalosporins. Monodrox is a prescription drug which is used in the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections. It is mainly used in the treatment of urinary tract infections, skin infections, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis.
Monodrox contains cefalexin which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against a wide variety of bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of a cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Monodrox is effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Beta-hemolytic streptococci, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococci strains, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella species.
