Maxopen XP is a brand name for Meropenem and available in injection form. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of medication called carbapenem antibiotics. Maxopen XP is a broad spectrum antibiotic, used for treating bacterial infections, such as pneumonia, lung and bronchial infections, meningitis, skin and abdominal (stomach area) infections.
Yes, Maxopen XP can treat UTI (urinary tract infection) but it is not generally preferred as a first line drug of choice for the treatment of UTI. It is only prescribed in UTI when other drugs are not effective in treating the infection or the severity of infection is very high.
Maxopen XP works by inhibiting the growth of bacterial cell wall which is essential for the growth of bacteria. Hence, in this way, it prevents us from bacterial infection.
Discontinuing Maxopen XP in between may promote resistant to bacteria which result in a relapse of the infection. You are recommended to complete the course even after getting symptomatic relief.
