Mavxime contains cefuroxime which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Mavxime is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pneumoniae, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
