Laxopeg is a disaccharide or a sugar which is a synthesized from fructose and galactose. It is used for the treatment of constipation majorly. In some cases, this drug is also given to treat liver diseases such as hepatic encephalopathy (decline in brain function that occurs as a result of severe liver disease).

Yes, Laxopeg can be used in children. Constipation is one of the highly prevalent problems in childhood. In children above 6 months of age, dietary modifications are recommended for the prevention and management of constipation, however, if there is no respite, osmotic laxatives such as lactulose have been found to be effective.

Laxopeg can cause diarrhea and as a result, dehydration. Therefore, you must talk to your doctor when you experience any symptoms of dehydration like dry mouth, rapid heartbeat, feeling dizzy, lack of energy, etc. Your doctor will advise you on whether to continue taking Laxopeg or go for an alternative medicine. In the meantime, you can ORS for relief from dehydration.

Older people frequently suffer from constipation. The osmotic laxatives like Laxopeg find a place in their therapy, however, some of the side effects associated with these agents are abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea and flatulence. These side effects are present because Laxopeg is converted to carboxylic acids like acetic acid, lactic acid and formic acid by the intestinal bacteria. Further, the patients may also develop a disliking to the sweet taste of the Laxopeg.
