It is a broad spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the class of drugs known as cephalosporins. Kefzen is a prescription drug which is used in the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections. It is mainly used in the treatment of urinary tract infections, skin infections, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis.
No, Kefzen does not contain penicillin or sulfa. It contains cefadroxil which belongs to the class of drug known as cephalosporins. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic which covers a wide range of bacteria which are generally found to be resistant to penicillin.
Kefzen contains cefalexin which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against a wide variety of bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of a cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Kefzen is effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Beta-hemolytic streptococci, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococci strains, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella species.
The dosage of Kefzen may vary from case to case as it depends on the type of infection and severity of the infection. You are recommended to take this drug as per your doctor's instructions. It should be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. Precautions must be taken in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, colitis, and impaired kidney function.
