Imutrex contains methotrexate which is a chemotherapy drug that works in cancer by preventing the DNA synthesis of cancerous cells. It inhibits dihydrofolic acid reductase enzyme which is important for the formation of tetrahydrofolate. Tetrahydrofolate is essential for the synthesis of some DNA components of the cancerous cells. This results in reduced inflammation and provides relief from the symptoms associated with these diseases.

It is used in the treatment of severe cases of psoriasis when another treatment with other medications is not working.
