It should be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. Precautions must be taken in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, colitis, and impaired kidney function.
Aroxil contains cefalexin which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against a wide variety of bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of a cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Aroxil is effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Beta-hemolytic streptococci, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococci strains, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella species.
Yes, Aroxil might help in acne. It is used for the treatment of acne vulgaris along with other antibiotics before treating with isotretinoin.
