Abactum contains cefuroxime which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Abactum is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pneumoniae, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Take Abactum as long as your doctor has prescribed it. Do not take this medicine longer than prescribed to avoid bacterial resistance.

It should be taken with food because food promotes its absorption from the stomach. Precautions must be taken in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, colitis, and impaired kidney function.
