Common causes of bleeding outside the body are peeling or cutting of the skin, which is caused by an accident or penetration of things like a needle or knife in the skin. If the wound is small, the body automatically starts forming blood clots so that the wound does not bleed much, but if the wound is too big, then blood clots are not able to stop bleeding and we need first aid. Internal bleeding can occur in the body due to diseases like leukemia, lung cancer and liver disease.

There are two main types of bleeding -

Internal Bleeding
Internal bleeding means bleeding inside the body due to some reason. This can be due to many diseases, such as hemophilia, endometriosis, lung cancer, vitamin K deficiency and brain injury etc.

External Bleeding
External bleeding means bleeding outside the body due to a cut in the skin. Some of its causes are accidents, any sharp object entering the body or getting shot, etc.

To stop bleeding, first apply pressure on the injured area with a clean cloth or bandage. This slows down the blood flow and helps in blood clot formation. If possible, keep the injury elevated above the level of the heart, so that the blood flow can be reduced. Use antiseptic to keep the wound clean and infection-free. For small wounds, use slightly cold water or ice, which can stop the bleeding.

If the bleeding is excessive and does not stop even after applying pressure for 10-15 minutes, contact a doctor immediately. In case of deep or serious injuries, it is important to seek medical help instead of home remedies.
