Bdrelin contains Triptorelin, is a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist used for the treatment of hormone-sensitive conditions. It is primarily used in managing prostate cancer, precocious puberty, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and in assisted reproductive technologies. Triptorelin works by suppressing the production of gonadotropins (LH and FSH), leading to reduced levels of sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. Triptorelin is a crucial medication in the management of hormone-dependent conditions such as prostate cancer, precocious puberty, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids. Its effectiveness, safety profile, and availability in various formulations make it a widely used GnRH agonist. However, due to its potential side effects, especially related to bone health and cardiovascular risks, careful monitoring and adjunct treatments may be necessary.
Triptorelin functions as a GnRH agonist, initially stimulating the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). However, with continuous administration, it leads to desensitization and downregulation of GnRH receptors, ultimately reducing gonadal steroid hormone production.
Initial Phase (Flare Effect): Temporary surge in LH and FSH levels, leading to an increase in testosterone or estrogen.
Chronic Phase (Suppression): Continuous stimulation results in downregulation of GnRH receptors, leading to suppression of LH and FSH, reducing testosterone and estrogen levels.
Used for androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in advanced or metastatic prostate cancer.
Reduces testosterone levels to castration levels, slowing cancer progression.
Delays early puberty in children by inhibiting premature activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.
Suppresses estrogen production, reducing the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus.
Provides symptomatic relief from pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea.
Reduces fibroid size by suppressing estrogen.
Often used before surgery to decrease tumor size.
Prevents premature ovulation in controlled ovarian stimulation cycles.
Improves synchronization in embryo transfer protocols.
Triptorelin is available as intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous (SC) injections in different depot formulations:
Triptorelin Pamoate
3.75 mg (1-month depot)
