Summary
Rhinoplasty is corrective surgery for the nose, in which the shape, size, and profile of the nose can be altered. A doctor may suggest rhinoplasty if your breathing is disturbed due to a nose blockage, or if there is damage to the nose due to an injury, infection, or cancer. The procedure may also be done to change your nose shape if you are not satisfied with the look of your nose.
A surgeon will only perform a rhinoplasty when your nasal bones are fully developed, and you have stopped smoking before the surgery. You may have to alter your medicine regimen before the procedure to avoid any complications. Rhinoplasty is done under general anaesthesia (you will be asleep during the procedure). After the surgery, you may experience some pain and swelling. You should visit your surgeon immediately if you experience fever or notice bleeding from the incision site.
