As many as 37,724 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of patients in India to nearly 12 lakh (1.2 million). On Wednesday, 22 June 2020, the number of cases in the country had risen to 11.93 lakh patients with the addition of the new wave of patients over the previous 24-hour period.
Besides the addition of thousands of new patients across the country, another 648 deaths were also reported to have taken place in the same 24 hours, taking the total death count in India to 28,732.

However, another 28,472 patients were also declared to have recovered from the coronavirus infection over the same period, taking the total number of recovered patients to over 7.53 lakh, with the recovery rate having climbed above 63%, and the fatality rate dropping to 2.40.
On the other hand, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that more than 1.47 crore tests have been conducted so far to identify those infected by the viral infection. Out of these, 3.43 lakh tests were done on Tuesday. COVID-19 has a positivity rate of over 8% in India after the release of new testing data.
