The total number of people infected by the COVID-19 infection continued its rise in India, with the total number of cases having crossed the 11-lakh mark as of Sunday, 19 July 2020.
Over 40,000 new patients were confirmed across the country over the last 24 hours as the number of cases continue to rise steadily. Based on the number of cases countries around the world have recorded, India is third, only behind the United States and Brazil.
Another 681 people were also confirmed to have died of the coronavirus infection in the same 24-hour period.
According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, the number of coronavirus infections in the country has gone up to 11,18,043, while the death toll has climbed to 27,500. However, the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 has also gone past seven lakh. On Sunday, more than 22 thousand infected people across the country were declared free from the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Based on the Health Ministry figures, the fatality rate due to the viral infection has come down from 2.50% to 2.45%, which according to them is one of the lowest in the world. The recovery rate of the infection has also increased to 62.61%.

On the other hand, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that more than 14 million tests have been conducted across the country to identify the patients of COVID-19. Out of these, 2.56 lakh tests have been done in the last 24 hours. After this increase, the positive rate of COVID-19 has been around 8%.
